Student Intern
Hi, I’m Maria! I am currently a master’s student at Portland State University studying social work and working towards my goal of becoming a therapist. I am a second-generation immigrant from a mixed family. I care deeply about the world around me and what I hope to see it become. My passion for this work has come from my own experiences with trauma, and the healing I know can come after.
Though many things have shaped how I show up to this work, the most salient part of my passion is working with youth. As someone who’s been a kid before, I have to say, it isn’t always that great. Many wounds from childhood follow us into adulthood, making it my goal to provide an outlet for youth to work towards mental wellness in a collaborative process, while prioritizing their autonomy and self-expression.
Mental Health Conditions & Diagnoses: Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Trauma
Identity, Culture & Community: Gender Identity, Racial Identity
Relationships & Interpersonal Dynamics: Family Relationship Conflicts
I use an open, collaborative, and relational approach. I reject saviorism and believe that you are the expert on your own life. I prioritize autonomy and want to provide the care that you need, not that I think you need.
I am originally from the east coast but moved to Portland for my undergraduate degree. In my free time, I love spending time with friends, playing video games, taking photos, all things swimming, reading, and cuddling with my cats, Ike and Sylvie.
